Seriously, the best cup of coffee I've ever tasted. After returning my month old Cuisinart thermal carafe coffee maker to the store where I'd purchased it (see that review)., I stopped off at the local thrift store to browse. I purchased it. but it works like it was just newly made. Easy to clean. I figured if it didn't work I was only out three bucks, and if it did work, I'd be in for a treat.
Easy to fill. While looking at the housewares, I spotted an old electric percolator that had never been used (the cord was still wrapped). Nice and hot, with no nasty paper filter taste. Well, after a little bit of research I found this to be the Farberware 2-12 cup percolator that has recently come back into popularity. Mine is the older model (made in the Bronx). Easy to pour.
Brews hot, stays hot, and doesn't take up all the room on your kitchen counter that all these new coffee makers do.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
This was most evident by the color as I would add creme. Last night was December 23rd. Over time I noticed that the coffee was becoming weaker. The first was the quality of the coffee. I've had this percolator for 2 years and it's been largely a disappointment. Keeping my fingers crossed. Then last night, it up and died after just short of 2 years. This was leading to water getting into the element despite my best effort during cleaning.
I picked up a Presto 2811 this morning. Not sure if that helped immensely, but it made me feel better. 2 issues over time. That meant I had to go buy a new coffee pot on Xmas Eve in absolutely horrible driving coniditions. I battled this by adding more grinds. The second was that the base with the heating element became somewhat warped and was not meeting the body of the pot cleanly. It got very good reviews here so I thought I'd give it a chance. Happy Holidays.
We've bought two of these because my wife likes the idea of old fashioned perked coffee. We've found that if you unplug it, let it cool, then perk again you usually get a good cup the second time around. Both of them (after about 2 years of daily use) have stopped being reliable. Sometimes the coffee is fine, but more and more often you fill it, plug it in, it perks and you get something weak and watery and undrinkable. But that is not why you buy an automatic coffeemaker.I've looked up the mechanics of coffee percolators online and can't figure out why this should happen. But take it from a two-time owner, it does.
The price wasn't bad either. Wife bought this product as a gift to replace an ancient similar item for her very elderly parents. You know, the ones that opine "Things ain't the same as they used to be".It was the right size, color, and right construction. And, it didn't have any fancy "pretensions" to boot. Thus it was received well.As to function, it seems to fit right in and works the way they WANT a percolator to work. Thus everybody's happy.
Makes great coffee.nice and hot. P.S. There is no indicator light or auto-shut-off so you have to be cautious not to leave it plugged in when you leave the house.
